چکیده
Abstract One of the most significant parameters for seismic hazard assessment analyses is fault slip rate. The combination both geological (long-term) and geodetic (short-term) data offers a more complete characterization potential active faults. Moreover, are also helpful tool analysis geodynamic processes. In this work, we present results local GPS network from Baza sub-Basin (SE Spain). This network, which includes six sites, was established in 2008 has been observed seven years. For first time, obtain short-term rates two faults area. normal Fault, estimate ranging between 0.3 ± mm/yr 1.3 0.4 mm/yr. strike-slip Galera quantify rate as 0.5 Our study shows discrepancy Fault previously reported long-term rates. indicates that could be presently period with displacement higher than mean magnitude 6 cycle. velocity vectors obtained show regional tectonic significance structure accommodates one-third extension Central Betic Cordillera. Slip rates and seismic moment deficits on major active faults in mainland China
[1] The Chinese mainland features widespread active faults and intensive seismic activity; both can be described in terms of slip rates on these faults. Previous studies of fault slip rates in mainland China have focused on individual faults or fault segments, and large discrepancies exist among results derived from different methods. Here we derive a self‐consistent estimate of the slip rates ...
متن کاملFrom Geodetic Imaging of Seismic and Aseismic Fault Slip to Dynamic Modeling of the Seismic Cycle
Understanding the partitioning of seismic and aseismic fault slip is central to seismotectonics as it ultimately determines the seismic potential of faults. Thanks to advances in tectonic geodesy, it is now possible to develop kinematic models of the spatiotemporal evolution of slip over the seismic cycle and to determine the budget of seismic and aseismic slip. Studies of subduction zones and ...

studying active faults behavior for earthquake prediction and recognition is a concentrated subject in earth science. precise measurements of earthsurface deformation by geodetic observation provide a good reference for studying different geodynamic phenomena. applying geodetic measurements in postseismic and interseismic intervals is an important tool for estimating strain accumulation and rh...
متن کاملBackstripping dip-slip fault histories: apparent slip rates for the Miocene of the Vienna Basin
Analysis of deformational histories along polyphase reactivated faults commonly is based on the dating of cross-cutting relationships using relative ages of offset strata or geochronological ages of syntectonically grown minerals within fault planes. However, ten Veen and Postma (1999) and ten Veen and Kleinspehn (2000) introduced a new approach to reconstructing the vertical component of synse...
متن کاملSeismic and geodetic constraints on Cascadia slow slip
[1] Automatically detected and located tremor epicenters from episodic tremor and slip (ETS) episodes in northern Cascadia provide a high-resolution map of Washington’s slow slip region. Thousands of epicenters from the past four ETS events from 2004 to 2008 provide detailed map-view constraints that correlate with geodetic estimates of the simultaneous slow slip. Each of these ETS events exhib...
